Remember when people thought Peyton Manning vs Ryan Leaf was actually a legitimate debate? That was almost 15 years ago, and now it seems laughable that the two could even be mentioned in the same sentence.
All these years later, Manning is still considered one of the best in the NFL, and still working on his legacy as one of the greatest QBs of all time. Leaf, on the other hand, hasn't played a down of NFL football for more than a decade, and is now heading to jail on multiple felony charges.
Where did everything go wrong for Leaf? Some might say it had a lot to do with his addiction to painkillers, but Leaf says it's far more than that.
"I'm lazy and dishonest and selfish. These were behaviors I had before my addiction kicked in."
That's pretty blunt and honest, coming from a guy who was once arrested twice in 2 days. The Colts are thrilled that they made the right choice back on Draft Day in 1998, but you have to think that some members of the Chargers organization back in '98 are wondering how they could have missed this.
Interestingly enough, the Chargers could have grabbed a stud like Charles Woodson, and then waited until the 6th round and gotten Matt Hasselbeck. But hey, hindsight is 20-20, I guess.
